The City will be hosting free winter activities for youth and families this February and March.  Get out and get active with these upcoming events and programs:

Family Day Skate
A free Family Day skate will be offered on Monday, February 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval (Oval) (Dudley Street and Avenue R South in the Gordon Howe Complex) featuring a DJ, skating lessons, and other winter activities.  There will also be free skating at the Cosmo Civic Centre Arena (3130 Laurier Drive) from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Free games, arts, and crafts will be available in the Cosmo Civic Centre gym from 200 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

There are vending machines, change rooms, and public washrooms for convenience at both locations.  Speed skates are not needed to enjoy skating at the Oval; however, please bring your own skates and safety gear as rentals are not available.

Please note, if the temperature reaches -25˚C or below with the wind chill, the outdoor event will be cancelled, and all participants should go to the indoor skate at the Cosmo Civic Centre.

Learn to Skate Program
For youth ages 2 to 12 years.  From February 18 to March 19, drop in to a free skating program at one of the locations below.  No experience is necessary.  Participants must bring their own skates and CSA-approved winter helmets.  Please note, children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult or responsible caregiver.

    Saturdays,10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Holliston (1151 Louise Avenue)
    Saturdays, 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • St. George (7478 Redberry Road)
    Sundays,10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Greystone Heights (2711 Main Street)
    Sundays,  1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Winter Play Program

For youth ages 2 to 12 years.  Drop in from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from February 18 to March 19, for winter games and activities such as snow squirt art, penguin races, snow soccer, and plenty more at the following locations:

  • Holliston (1151 Louise Avenue)
  • Greystone Heights (2711 Main Street)
  • Westmount (306 Avenue L North)

Each location has a heated warm-up building.  Please note, if the temperature reaches ‑25˚C or below with the wind chill, the program will be cancelled.

February Break Camps
Free activities will be held at Cosmo Civic Centre (3130 Laurier Drive) for youth ages 10 to 14 years.

  • Tuesday, February 21 –SCYAP Art Program
    Participants will make buttons, masks and scratch art.
    9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; or 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, February 22 – Basketball Camp
    A half day of skill development for participants
    9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; or 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Thursday, February 23 – Open Gym
    Drop in to use the gym and variety of sports equipment.  Registration not required.
