Indoor Programs

 

Text Box: College Park Recreation Association will be offering a wide range of indoor programs for youth and for adults this fall, right in your neighborhood.  These offer a great chance to meet your neighbors, get some exercise and to have fun:

SPORTS ABC (3-5 yrs old with parent)
Mondays 6-7 pm 	Sept 12 – Oct 24	Cardinal Leger School	$25
Parents - every Monday will be your favorite day of the week!  With CPRA’s SPORTS ABC, your child will dance, jump, move, have fun and it will get your little ones to bed without a fuss!   It is also an excellent way to meet new playmates while learning a new sport each week!  

LITTLE ARTISTS (5-8 yrs)
Mondays 6-7 pm 	Sept 12 – Oct 24	Cardinal Leger School	$25
Arts & Crafts for a whole hour!  LITTLE ARTIST is a structured program that will sure encourage the little artists in our young ones.  Make sure to wear old clothes and bring your creativity, it could be quite messy but a lot of fun!  


GYMNASTICS (5-8 yrs)
Mondays 7-8 pm 	Sept 12 – Oct 24	Cardinal Leger School	$25
Boys and girls will have fun while gaining flexibility, coordination and confidence!  Kids will enjoy a variety of games and creative movements every week!  Make sure to register early - there are only 10 spots available!

COME READ WITH ME (5-8 yrs)
Thursdays 7-8 pm 	Sept 15 – Oct 20	Cardinal Leger School	$25
This program is offered FREE of charge by READ SASKATOON (with paid membership).  COME READ WITH ME will help encourage reading as a fun and valuable activity for both parents and child.  This program uses children’s books as a starting point for development of literacy and discussion of a wide range of parenting issues.
						 

LEARN TO DRAW (6-10 yrs)

Calling all doodlers!  LEARN TO DRAW is the program for you!  You will learn the basics in drawing in this fun and creative atmosphere!  Come and discover your talent!
 

CREATIVE DRAMA

Calling all young actors and actresses!  Come and explore CREATIVE DRAMA twice a week through games, exercises, drama and stories of your own!   The program is structured to run two separate classes (9-11 and 12 – 15 yrs old).  Come and find out why this is the most popular program at College Park!  There is maximum of 20 participants.


HENNA (10 and up)

Have you ever tried tattooing?  Henna is the art of temporary tattooing done by women to beautify their hands and feet in eastern culture.  Join and find out more about this fascinating art for!  Recommended for women and girls.


YOUTH FLOOR HOCKEY

Get your kids off of the couch and into having fun!  Join YOUTH FLOOR HOCKEY - a great way to develop hockey skills in a non-competitive atmosphere!  Bring your plastic hockey sticks and join the fun!  Youth Floor Hockey will be supervised but not structured.  This program will need parent supervision.  A parent rotation will be scheduled on registration night.  Register early; there is a maximum of 12 players for each session.

ULTIMATE FRISBEE (10-13 yrs old )

Ultimate Frisbee is an exciting, fun and social sport!  Come and meet members of the Saskatoon Ultimate Frisbee and Disc Sport.  Playing frisbee will never be the same again!

BABYSITTING (11- ½ and up)
Saturday 9am-5 pm 	   Sept. 17	Sherbrook Community Center	$55
Get trained and get paid!  BABYSITTING program provides an introduction to first aid and problem solving situations with children.  This course is an all-day program.  It will cover babysitter’s responsibilities and capabilities for infant, toddler, pre-schoolers and school age.  The course also consists of some basics in first aids such as treating cuts, burns, broken bones, choking, rescue breathing.  The Canadian Red Cross Society leads this program.  All materials are provided just bring your nut-free lunch!  And make sure to call CPRA newsletter coordinator to have your new business posted in the community newsletter!  

ZUMBA (16 yrs old and up)

Here is the program you have been waiting for – ZUMBA!  Come and join this exhilarating, easy-to-follow, calorie-burning dance fitness party!  Exercising will never be the same!  

BADMINTON (16 and up)
Tuesdays 8-9:30 pm 	Set 13 – Nov 15	Cardinal Leger School $20
Beginner badminton is the place to hit back and have fun!  Play with a partner of your choice or meet new people in our community.  It will be a blast every week!  If you have your own badminton, bring it, otherwise it is provided.  


TAIKO DRUMMING (16 and up)
Thursday 6-9 pm 		Sept 15	College Park School	 	$25	 
Challenge yourself with this introductory class on Taiko Drumming!  Experience playing on hand made Japanese drums and meeting new friends!  James Bykowy, founder of Living Sky Taiko, Saskatoon, will present this single 3-hour workshop.  The program will cover taiko drum basic patterns and techniques. Space is limited.

MIDDLE EASTERN BAKING (16 and up)
Friday 6-8 pm 	Sept. 16 	Sherbrook Community Centre	$20
For the sweet lover!  Learn some basics of Arabic baking and impress your friends and families with your new recipes.  
 
ALL ABOUT SUSHI (16 and up)
Friday 6-8 pm 	Sept. 23 	Sherbrook Community Centre	$20
Looking for a new recipe to add to your cookbook?  Why not learn how to make sushi!  Make sure to come with an empty tummy and a notebook. 

EAST INDIAN COOKING (16 and up)

Want to stimulate your taste buds?  Come and join us in this two-hour session learning to use different spices from the East.   

COED FLOOR HOCKEY (Adult)
Mon & Wed 8-9:30 pm   Sept. 12 – Mar. 19	  College Park School 	$50
COED FLOOR HOCKEY is an invigorating program that has been running for a few years in College Park.  It is a fast paced game with a “fun-first” approach.  Players of all skill levels are encouraged to join!  Please bring your hockey stick (plastic only) and non-marking shoes.

YOGA (Adult)
Wednesdays 7:30-8:30 pm 	Sept. 14 – Nov. 2 Cardinal Leger School 	$40
Bend and flex your body towards more active lifestyles!  This introduction to yoga will teach you to calm your mind as you increase your strength and flexibility.  The most popular program ever with the adults!  

  
FIRST AID-CPR-AED (Adult)
Sat & Sun 9am-5 pm  Sept. 24-25	Sherbrook Community Center	$125
Recognize, treat and prevent airway/breathing/cardiovascular emergencies!  Skills taught include rescue breathing, airway obstruction solutions and CPR for adult.  The Canadian Red Cross Society leads this program.  All materials are provided just bring your nut-free lunch!  Minimum of 6 participants required.  


BOOT CAMP (Adult)
Thursdays 8-9:30 pm  Sept.15 – Nov. 17	College Park School  	$50
Revitalize your body and pump up your energy level with our new program BOOT CAMP.  This program will help you develop a regular exercise program!  Come and challenge yourself!

URBAN POLING CLUB (Adult)
Fridays & Sundays 6:30-8:30 pm 	 Sept.  – Nov. 
College Park Neighbourhood	Free
Enjoy the outdoors while having a total body workout!  The Urban Poling Club will meet twice a week using Nordic walking poles.  With these poles, you will burn calories, strengthen core muscles, increase stability and balance, and reduce stress on knee and hip joints!  CPRA has two full sets of poles (for 10 people) borrowed from Community Development Branch.  There is a $100 deposit to borrow the poles.  Even if you don’t have a pole, you are welcome join the club.


FAMILY SWIM (Family)		
Sundays 7-8:30 pm 	Sept. 2011 – Mar. 2012 Lakewood Civic Center	$120
Enjoy an hour and a half of relaxing swim with your family at Lakewood Civic Center for less than the usual cost!  Half the cost and double the fun throughout fall and winter!  The regular fee for a family is ~$15 for one session.  Limited space.  

WATER CONVERSATION (Family)
Friday 7-8:30 pm 	Sept. 16 	College Park School		$10
Looking for ways to conserve water?  Do you know your water footprint is?  Come and find answers to these questions.  Your child/ren will also learn how they can help you conserve water at home with this parallel program design especially for them. 

EATING LOCAL (Family)
Friday 7-8:30 pm 	Sept. 23 	College Park School	 	$10
Do you know where your food comes from?  Come and find out!  Be introduced to a new way of loving the food you eat and don’t miss the best part of the program – NEW RECIPES!  There will be a parallel program for your kids where they will learn the different types of foods that grow in Saskatchewan.

Learn how to reduce energy use in your household and find out what the biggest energy-users are in your home.  Find out basic knowledge in energy and waste reduction and it will surely save you some money.
